How to check an Airbnb registration number in Los Angeles
The City of Los Angeles regulates short term rentals through its Home-Sharing Ordinance. A short term rental is a unit rented for 30 consecutive days or less. Updated Administrative Guidelines took effect on September 28, 2026.
What a registration is
- A regular registration is valid for 12 months and allows up to 120 days of home-sharing per calendar year.
- An extended registration allows more days and has extra requirements, such as a record without recent suspensions or revocations.
- Each primary residence can have one registration, and registrations cannot be transferred.
How to look one up
City Planning runs a public Home-Sharing Records Portal that shows whether a property is registered for home-sharing and whether a home-sharing citation has been issued to it. It is linked from the City Planning home-sharing page at Planning4LA.org. You can search by address.
What a missing number does and does not mean
- Stays of 30 nights or more are not short term rentals under the ordinance, so a missing number on a month-long rental is not a warning sign.
- On a short stay, a missing or mismatched number is worth asking the host about before you pay.
- A registration shows what the City has on file as of the date checked. It is not a finding that a stay will be safe or good.
Citations
Under the guidelines, a host with sustained citations can face suspension or revocation of the registration, so a citation on record is relevant to a booking decision. A citation is the City's record, not a conclusion about the host.
The faster way
Deedlore compiles permits, zoning, hazard zones and other public records for a City of Los Angeles address into one report, with the date each record was retrieved. Reports may be incomplete and are not legal advice.
