How to check the area around an Airbnb in Los Angeles

Many guests worry about the neighborhood as much as the unit. Public records can give you numbers about the area. They cannot give you a rating, and they should not be read as one.

Police report counts

The Los Angeles Police Department publishes crime report data. A count of reports within a set distance of an address, shown by year and type, describes the surrounding area, not the home. LAPD rounds locations to the hundred block, and it changed record systems in March 2024, so counts across that date are matched approximately. The current year is partial.

Ask people who know

Reviews that mention the street, the parking and the walk at night are often more useful than any number. Ask the host about parking and lighting.

How Deedlore helps

Deedlore's report shows nearby police report counts by year and type for a City of Los Angeles address, with the source and date, next to hazard maps and permits. It is not a safety rating or a guarantee, and it describes the area, not any person. Deedlore is not affiliated with Airbnb, Vrbo or any booking platform.

Common questions

Does Deedlore check the host?

No. Deedlore describes properties, not people. It does not show host names or run background checks.

Does a registered rental mean a safe stay?

No. A registration shows what the City has on file as of the date checked. It is not a finding that a stay will be safe or good.

Which addresses are covered?

Addresses in the City of Los Angeles only. Other cities, including Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, have their own rules.
